Day 9

This afternoon Kari, Jeana and her 2 boys, and I went to the HLM Market to buy fabric for our Senegalese dresses and skirts. It was crazy! All the shops were crammed close to one another; the cars can barely get through because the road is so narrow, and there are so many people. I bought 2 dresses and some fabric. I’m going to take the fabric to a tailor with which he will make a skirt and dress.
The fabric I'm having a skirt and dress made from
I bought this dress for about $6
This dress was about $6 too

After the market I went with Kari’s friend, Amanda, to Teen Bi for 2 hours to help the younger boys and older girls with arts and crafts. It was so much fun! It felt so good to help a little boy cut paper and write his name on his art. I’ve heard that usually they don’t behave very well, but today they were pretty good.

Most of the boys have no patience. As soon as we put art supplies on the table they all grab them at once! I think this is how they are used to doing things at home, especially with food. If they don’t get to the food quickly enough, they won’t be able to eat at all. They don’t really like to have their pictures taken, but hopefully next week Kari can take one discretely for me.

The arts and crafts with the older girls was really fun too! They definitely are not as wild as the younger boys, but some of them still need help with their art. A few of them recognized me from teaching them dance on Monday.
