After feeling nice and clean (!!), we went to church. Kari and Jonathan’s church meets at the International School in Dakar. The service was all in English, and was very similar to what I’m used to in the States. I’m looking forward to going back next Sunday!
For lunch we had chawarmas. These are Lebanese, and they’re similar to Greek gyros. They’re tortillas wrapped around meat, fried egg, French fries, onions, and tomatoes. They were actually really good!
We decided today was the day for the city tour of Dakar. Kari and Jonathan asked their favorite taxi driver (he’s their favorite because his taxi is cleaner than the others, and they don’t feel like it will fall apart) to drive us around. We saw a famous mosque of the Layenne Brotherhood, the lighthouse, a monument to the African Renaissance, the Presidential Palace, and the markets downtown. So now I’ve seen the suburbs and downtown of Dakar. Soon we’re hoping to take some other trips outside of the city!
The mosque of the Layenne Brotherhood--they believe that when Jesus comes back to Earth he will walk on the ocean and then come into this mosque and that will be the end of the world
