Day 17

Today was really fun! We woke up at about 5:30 to go to the game reserve, Bandia. We wanted to get there right when it opened at 8, so we left Dakar at about 7. Because we don’t have a car, we hired our favorite taxi driver, Basse, to take us. The reserve is not like a zoo where the animals are in cages. We drove through the park with a guide, who showed us the best places to find the animals. We saw hyenas, warthogs, zebras, giraffes, buffalo, birds, monkeys, horse antelope, gazelles, rhinos, and crocodiles. My favorites were the monkeys, giraffes, and rhinos. We were able to get within about 5-10 feet from the giraffes and the rhinos. It was so cool to see these animals here in the wild!

On the way back from Bandia we drove through the village where Kari used to live. I got to see the house she lived in and the clinic she worked at. That was pretty cool.

Now I’m exhausted because we woke up so early, but I did get two showers today! And, I was able to wash my hair both times!!! All in all, another excellent day in Senegal!
